Classic Applesauce

Classic ApplesauceIngredients:

12 medium Washington Gala or Golden Delicious apples
1 cup water
½ cup sugar, or less to taste
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Method:

1. Wash, quarter, peel and core the apples. Place them in a large cooking pot and add the water.
2. Cover and cook over medium heat until they are nearly soft, approximately 30 minutes.
3. Add the sugar and lemon juice and cook 5 more minutes.
4. Remove from heat and press through a strainer, puree in a food processor or mash with a potato masher. Add cinnamon to taste.

Servings:

5 cups of applesauce
